What classes should I take?

Writing-Intensive Classes

English composition courses ENGL 100/101 & 302 easily fulfill the requirements. In addition to these courses, most of your general education requirements should also suffice, provided you have sufficient exposure to scholarly literature and writing. If you are a science major with a choice of electives, select classwork in subjects that are of interest to you in history, literature, or arts.

Communication skills are also highly valued, and one should not shy away from taking coursework in public speaking. Foreign language skills are also valued, especially in Spanish and Asian languages. But one must not de-emphasize the importance of competency in English, especially vocabulary as seen in professional settings.

In addition to your required reading, students should also keep up with the news and read more about the profession. Being knowledgable about issues affecting health and biomedical science shapes the practice of medicine and underscores the importance of public education and awareness of medicine. As future representatives of the profession, one must start becoming knowledgeable about these issues.
