Early Medical School Acceptance Programs

Mason-St. Martinus Accelerated MD Program

Students who are pursuing a bachelor of science in biology are admitted to the St. Martinus University Faculty of Medicine after the completion of the junior year at George Mason. Students can also apply if they have completed their seventh semester (first semester senior year) for subsequent participation at St. Martinus for their final coursework.

Outcome

Accepted students obtain a bachelor of science in biology degree and a doctor of medicine (MD) degree after 7 years.

Eligibility

Applying Mason students must meet the following criteria:

  • Student pursues a bachelor of science degree in biology.
  • The SAT score by freshman enrollment is 1300 minimum.
  • The student's grade point average in high school is 3.3 or higher.
  • If the student is a transfer student, he/she carries in a GPA of 3.5 or higher.
  • Virginia residency is preferred but highly qualified applicants will be considered regardless of residency status.
  • Applicants must maintain a 3.3 grade point average (3.5 average for transfer students) for both overall and prehealth-required science coursework, with no grade lower than a C.
  • Good academic standing.
  • Applicants must demonstrate interest and evidence of scholarly and professional potential as a physician.
Procedures and Policies

The Health Professions Advisor and the Medical Sciences Advisory Committee evaluates all applicants and recommends students to participate in this program. The Health Professions Advisor communicates with Admissions officers at St. Martinus to facilitate the transition to taking classes at St. Martinus for the applicant's fourth year. During the fourth year (senior year), the applicants will undertake coursework for their first-year medical students.

As seniors, all students apply to enroll in the medical program at St. Martinus under normal applications procedures. Letters of reference and certified transcripts must be submitted. For this purpose, admitted students may use the MSAC composite letter and filed references that were submitted for entry into the Accelerated MD Program.

For final admission to St. Martinus, program participants must maintain their GPA's at 3.3 (3.5 for transfer students) and take the MCAT with an overall score minimum of 24 (no subscores lower than 7).
