George Mason MCAT scores

The following table lists the average MCAT scores taken by George Mason students or alumni who are pursuing or have pursued a baccalaureate degree. Note that in 2007, the MCAT scores will no longer be administered on two major test dates.

Since each test administration involves different students or alumni, one should be cautious in interpreting these data as representative of all Mason prehealth students. The test preparation strategies of these students are also not known.

Let it also be said that the MCAT is not an "intelligence test" but it is a test of the skills that are valuable in preparing for a career in medicine.

Notes to these data
  1. The median writing score usually falls at N or O.
  2. There is no significant difference in scores between Mason student/alumni men and student/alumni women beyond minor trends seen nationally.
  3. The standard deviation of these data is typically between 2.0 to 2.5 per section of the exam. While it has not been looked at great detail at this point, non-traditional Mason students (students who took the test at an age significantly older than the usual traditional age for college juniors) have done better than the averages indicate.
  4. National MCAT performance data can be found on the AAMC website. In general the national average score is 8.0 for PS and VR sections, 9.0 for BS, and 25.0 overall.
