Interview Checklist

Hopefully, our students will get at least one callback for an interview at a health professions program. Use the following guidelines to help you with your interviews for the MSAC as well as for the admissions officer interviews.

1. Research the institution where you are interviewing. That means check out the website and know about the school's mission.
2. If you know in advance that a faculty member is interviewing you, do some homework on the background of that faculty member including any possible research interests.
3. Review your essay answers on your pre-application, initial and school-specific applications.
4. Schedule a mock or practice interview (The Perfect Interview online link).
   1. Practice answering questions.
   2. Be prepared to answer challenging questions with confidence.
   3. Be enthusiastic, honest, and professional.
5. Dress for success
   1. Conservative, professional appearance. No crocs.
   2. Oral hygiene check
   3. Minimal perfume, cologne, and aftershave.
   4. This is not a rock concert. Minimize your unusual body piercings, and use natural hair color highlighting.
6. Think of questions you want to ask. Here are some suggestions.
7. Be punctual. No excuses.
8. Be courteous to everyone you meet.
9. Address the interviewer formally with title unless otherwise told.
10. Send a thank-you note within 48 hours. Email is fine, but mailing a card shows a little bit more consideration.
