Health Professions Advising at Mason |
||
Information for ApplicantsMason Graduate Students and EmployeesMost health professions admissions officers expect the management of letters of evaluation to come from the undergraduate institution. If you would prefer that Dr. Chuck handle the process, written permission needs to be secured from the health professions advisor at your undergraduate institution. Once that is obtained, graduate students with WebCT will be entered into the Health Professions advising "class" and be expected to complete all the assignments when scheduled. Of course, all graduate students and employees should subscribe to the PREHEALTH-L listserv and are welcome to attend any information or recruiting sessions listed under Upcoming Programs. Appointments may also be set with Dr. Chuck. About Letters of EvaluationThe concerns of admissions committees are the same regardless of how long it was since your undergraduate degree. The challenge is to find evaluators who can address your current competency and preparation for a health professions program. In addition, evaluators should be in a position to address effectively your preparation to handle a health professions program. If you were enrolled in a postbaccalaureate or continuing educational program, make sure you can secure at least one professor's commitment to write you an evaluation. Before your evaluators write your letter, you must provide them documentation waiving your right to review the letter (resulting in a confidential letter). Furthermore, point them to the website's page on writing letters of evaluation.
